Meet Megan Kavanagh
Megzi Pearls Floristry

Megan’s always had a passion for flowers, but being a single mum and struggling to reach her potential at school meant it was difficult to get her business idea off the ground. When her son started primary school, Megan decided it was time to follow her passion. With the support of Social Ark, she created Megzi Pearls, a florists that runs community floral workshops and supplies professional floristry services. Megan uses her lived experience of facing multiple barriers to help others from similar backgrounds.

Megan’s workshops are regularly commissioned. She has also worked with Leaders In The Community, Level39 Canary Wharf, School for Social Entrepreneurs and the Bromley By Bow Centre; as well as a combination of socially driven community and corporate ventures. The Megzi Pearls workshops are totally inclusive, and include a mix of people from all backgrounds, including corporate professionals, single mums, and people facing multiple disadvantages - they all come together and have fun with flowers.

Megan’s professional service has grown, and to her credit, she is regularly commissioned for floristry services. Most recently, Megan was commissioned for a historic wedding in The Tower of London.

She is also a valued member of the Social Ark youth advisory board.

I never had the confidence or education to start a business. Social Ark helped me to take my idea to reality; I’ve learned everything from networking to evaluating impact; the one-to-one sessions helped me stay on track. Social Ark has introduced me to a whole new world, and way of thinking. They don’t judge and believe in young people who’ve had a tough time; they believed in ME!
